Income Tax Preparation

Free tax preparation and filing is offered at the TEAM Vita Site operating between January 26 and April 14. IRS trained volunteers’ help taxpayers prepare basic tax return forms, where the primary source of income is from wages and salaries. The tax returns are filed electronically at no cost.

The goals for this initiative include:

• To increase the number of working families that qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the Child Care Tax Credit (CTC)
• To reduce the amount of EITC and CTC tax dollars lost to tax preparation fees
• To increase the number of free tax preparation sites
• To promote the use of EITC and CTC dollars as a gateway to asset building through financial literacy training.

Eligibility Requirements

The VITA Program offers free tax help to low- to moderate-income ($49,000 and below) (200% OF Poverty) people who cannot prepare their own tax returns.

Application Process
Applications are taken by appointment from January to April. Please call us at 736-5420 ext. 220 to schedule an appointment

Items you need to bring to have your tax returns prepared

• Must bring photo identification
• Social Security Cards for you, your spouse and dependents
• Birth Dates for primary, secondary and dependents on the tax return
• Current year’s tax package if you received one
• Wage and earning statement(s) Form W-2, W-2G, 1099-R, from all employers
• Interest and dividend statements from banks (Forms 1099)
• A copy of last year’s Federal and State returns if available
• Bank Routing Numbers and Account Numbers for Direct Deposit
• Other relevant information about income and expenses
• Total Paid for Day Care
• Day Care providers Identifying number
• To file taxes electronically on a married filing joint tax return, both spouses must be present to sign the required forms.
